In need of direction.

Two posts in one month! Whee!Okay, so. Do any of you enjoy pushing your favourite music on anybody who is willing to listen as much as I do? Well, I'm willing to listen and I'm making it easy. Please, leave a comment telling me about your favourite bands or songs or albums. I have two weeks before I'm back in class and I need some kind of non-homework activity to keep me off the streets. :) Also, I'm interested in finding out what kind of music you all listen to-- I've found I don't really know. So, tell me, and feel free to rhapsodise about whatever you love-- gushing is fun. I promise to listen.

It's much more fun pushing your book tastes on people as that seems to generally annoy them more. But music is good as well...nothing like recommending Eminem to someone who listens to gospel just to see their face. Here's a small list of music I like:EminemMaroon 5HansonCounting CrowsLinkin ParkRed Hot Chili PeppersHoobastankBilly JoelThree Doors DownCheck em out if your interested. I wish I had time for non-homework activities. I feel the countdown to school and a large pile of summer work is beckoning me...

Hmm...well, you can't go wrong with Barenaked Ladies. And I recently bought the soundtracks to "Peter Pan" and "Holes" which are both excellent. Yeah, I think my top rec will be "Holes"--the soundtrack has music for every genre (seriously! Shaggy and Moby and Stephanie Bentley all on one album).

Thank you for your help!I only know two Barenaked Ladies songs (which I liked very much), but I'm always seeing people talking about them. I mean, I refer to them in my head as BNL now. So you've just given me the final push. :)I'll also look for the two soundtracks as soon as possible. Thanks again, Ree!

Thanks for the recs, Choco! It's much more fun pushing your book tastes on people as that seems to generally annoy them more.:DI have four Hanson CDs already, so yay. Is it you who's seeing them in concert soon? If so, have lots of fun! If not, I wish you were. :) I've also got Maroon 5's Songs About Jane. I like them a lot, and unlike a lot of people I know, I don't think Adam Levine is skeevy-looking (though maybe the band as a whole could stand to look a bit less unwashed). Do you?I'm so horribly ignorant about the Counting Crows. I remember a Hanson interview from (I think) 1998 in which Isaac said they were his favourite band, and I've been kind of avoiding the trouble of checking them out ever since. Their new song and video are cute, though, and I'm sorry, because I suppose that's an annoying thing to hear me say if you're a fan of the band. Anyway, I'll look them up now.Honestly, I don't think Eminem and I would get along. Me plus one of his CDs would be a fit of bleeding-heart outrage waiting to happen.I think I'll have to try the other bands out tomorrow-- it's almost four now. Thanks again! Also, when are you back in school?

Oooh! Okay: The Killers and The Shins are two bands that I have recently fallen in love with. You might have heard The Killers' song "Somebody Told Me", but I also absolutely LOVE their song "Mr. Brightside" - gah! The Shins have not been on any radio station that I've heard, but they're awesome! They're kind of Indie Rock I guess. Fave songs... Caring is Creepy, New Slang, Pink Bullets, Those to Come... I love them all though. They have two cds: "Oh, Inverted World" & "Chutes Too Narrow".I'm a big Rooney fan too, they have one self-titled album out. In fact they had a show in my college town this summer, but of course i wasn't there, argh!I'll add one rock classic here too - "Who's Next" by The Who. One of my favorite albums. SO awesome.

Yeah, the BNL album "Stunt" has a lot of good songs (it's the only one of theirs that I own, heh).

(not to say that the other albums are bad or anything, i just don't have them... okay i'll stop posting now ;p)

Oh, and I see you have Franz Ferdinand in your interests! Coolness!(ok i'm seriously done spamming your LJ now)

The Killers! I have their CD! (Kind of, um, illegally, but I'm going to buy it and make an honest fan of myself as soon as it gets here.) Mr. Brightside rocks, but my favourite is Andy, You're A Star. Wow, I didn't know you liked them! This is so cool, I can't help exclaiming excessively. (!)I've heard fantastic things about The Shins, but I've been so terribly lazy about doing something about it. I have to get that done right now.I haven't slept all night, but I'm going to try to put it off a little longer while I chase The Shins and Rooney and The Who across the internet.Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help! :DPS: Yes, I love Franz Ferdinand. My favourite song of theirs would have to be Michael or Auf Achse. How about you? (And you know you're not spamming my LJ!)

crwzymindktaorayahoocom said...

D'oh, so are The Killers. (and Rufus!!)

Oh I love Andy, particularly the guitar at the beginning.Fave FF song... it's probably between auf achse, take me out, & darts of pleasure. One more recommendation, hehe: Modest Mouse. I think they're a bit of an acquired taste for some, but you might want to check them out.(And get some sleep! ;p)

BNL have a greatest hits album that you would probably enjoy.(Sorry for the delete/repost--I replied to the wrong comment!)

Ahhhh....Hanson, the thing that makes the world go 'round. I'm seeing them in concert soon, it will be awesome. The only thing sadder than you remembering the interview in which Isaac said what his favorite band is that I remember the exact same thing...it could possible be why I got into them in the first place.I start school August 30th which is actually fairly later than usual, but still...less than two weeks. And I very much agree with alphabet about the barenaked ladies, they are excellent.

You have Zox in your interest. ^^ I've never actually heard them, but two of my good friends (celine8627 and iamtwp) LOVE them, so you officially rule.My favourite music: Celine Dion, Jewel, Madonna, (early) Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Justin Timberlake, NSYNC, Whitney Houston, Sheryl Crow ... Jeez, I have tons more, but I'll spare you. Oh, also, please check out Helen Trevillion, a really good singer/composer/musician who is unsigned, but she has more talent than Britney Spears (which I suppose, isn't saying much, but oh well. ^^)

lagranoeevasidn said...

Nice to see you here! :)Zox are cool. White boy reggae + classical! What's not to love? Thanks for all the recs! I actually have CDs by a few of those artists (Mariah is my girl, I don't care what anyone says), and I'll look into the rest immediately. Billy Joel is especially cool. :) If you like him and Destiny Hikari, you should try Josh Fix's Rock And Roll Slut-- don't let the title fool you, it's a sweet piano ballad. /music pimpI listened to your Helen Trevillion. She's quite talented, and I love Inside (piano-based songs in general, really, but this is a cool one). Thanks so much for pointing her out to me!Also, I friended you back. See you around!

I reccomend Kristin Diable! :) Even though I don't know you LOL! She's a cross between Ani DiFranco and John Mayer with some serious soul.http://www.kristindiable.com

Wow, thanks for the rec! I recently came to the rather sad conclusion that I don't like female voices quite as much as male ones, so Kristin really surprised me. I especially love Finding Mine. So, thank you very much for getting me to listen to her. :)Also, I know I asked for recs and you didn't, but I was looking at your interests (yay for liking Low Millions, BTW!) and I hoped you might like Owen Beverly, this man, if you heard him. You obviously don't have to if you don't want to, but you like John Mayer and love songs, so here's Love On Your Own Terms at yousendit.com if you want it. :)

seecatsmile said...

Hey, no problem! (I am really into Low Millions! Some people at mystupidmouth.com got me into them.)I listened to that song- good stuff! I love his voice. Owen really reminds me of Rufus Wainwright who I also adore. :)Feel free to send any more new music my way (or music that might be new to me). I love checking out new artists.

I heard about LM at MSM, too, where I'm a hardcore lurker. Loved what I heard and can't wait for Amazon to get their CD to me.I'm glad you like the Owen song! I love his voice, too, and I definitely think it has something to do with its Rufus-ness. For me, it's the slurring thing they both do.As for new music... Let's see, how about The Daylights, If Words Were Bullets. This is the only song of theirs I know. Vaguely Coldplay-ish, but sunnier and less epic-sounding. I don't know why I even bother pimping this band, though; their EP is supposedly coming out in two days and yet they haven't bothered to update their website since May. Anyway, I hope you'll let me know about any other recommendations you have; I love everything you've said so far.I friended you, BTW :)

Oh, thank you very much for the recommendations! I'll make sure to check out those artists very soon. sheepgrl actually sent me some Indigo Girls, Dayna Manning and Thea Gilmore (all of which I liked), and I have albums by The Killers, Frou Frou, and Pete Yorn (musicforthemorningafter, actually, which I just got this week). And Carbon Leaf have played with my favourite band, Jump Little Children. So, clearly, this is a very good list. Thank you again. (Lovely icon, by the way!) :)
